Eco-Friendly Mega-Pavillion For The COP 18 Summit

All the 17.000 participants invited at the UN Climate Change Conference – COP 18 held these days in Doha, Quatar, came to Qatar National Convention Center, one of the ultimate modern buildings in the country. The edifice has been specially chosen, because is one of the very few LEED Gold certified venues that can host a large number of guests.

 

The building grabs attention mainly due to the steel façade, designed into the shape of a native sidra tree, symbolizing the high level of responsibility towards the environment.

 

The Qatar National Convention Center has a large number of facilities aimed to increase the economy of resources. The clean electricity is available because of the solar-paneled roof, while the LED lighting and the smart air conditioning system work with a network of sensors that switch these utilities off when the last visitor leaves the room.

 

The whole edifice that required up to 270 million US dollars to be built and equipped includes 10 performance spaces, a 4,000-seat conference hall, a 2,500-seats theatre, 52 meeting rooms and over 40,000 square meters of exhibition space.
