Aston Martin highlighted an astonishing eco-friendly presence at the Nurburgring 24 Hours Race, proving to all the competitors what a racecar that emits only water is capable of. We’re talking about the Aston Martin Rapid S racer with a hydrogen-based engine, which managed to match the standard model performances, on track.

According to the British team officials, the 550 BHP and 6.0 liters V12 engine under the hood of the Rapide S has been modified in order to run on gasoline, hydrogen and a gasoline-hydrogen mix, as well. The only downside was the engine power drop with about 60 BHP and the recorded lap time higher with about 15 seconds than a gasoline powered racecar.

In order to compete without any difficulties, the technicians installed inside four hydrogen gas tanks inside the Rapide S, which raised the total weight with about 80 kg. They said that this weight gain is small compared with the batteries required to power an electric version of an Aston Martin racecar.
