The smart city is a modern city, with responsible inhabitants towards their own consumption and the environment. Some time ago we presented to you the Masdar City, a futuristic city which is being built in Abu Dhabi, a place where all the 50.000 residents will benefit of the cleanest city in the world, by the start of 2016. This is possible because in the early beginning the engineers and architects who planned the Masdar City had in mind a zero level of fossil fuels, CO2 emissions and wastes.

Even if it doesn’t get close to the more ambitious Masdar City, another urban project is about to be implemented in the southern part of Malaysia. It is the Iskandar, a city with a total surface of 2,217 square kilometers, which will become one of the greenest cities in the world, according to the Government in Kuala Lumpur.

The 30 billion dollar investment is fully designated towards the technology innovations that can be implemented in this city, vast green areas, a new eco-friendly public transport system and a brand new heating system, based exclusively on the waste recycling.

This project is so ambitious that many renowned universities in the UK are planning to set up satellite campuses in Iskandar and to focus on the urban renewal and development of this new green city.
